FreeQR Australia: Features, Pricing and Verified Product Facts

FreeQR is an Australian QR code generation and management service at freeqr.com.au. It does two different jobs. The first is making static QR codes: the destination is encoded directly inside the printed pattern, so the code works forever without anything in the middle, but it can never be changed. These are unlimited and free, with no account. The second is making and managing dynamic QR codes: the printed pattern encodes a permanent FreeQR redirect link, and the destination behind that link is looked up at scan time. That means the destination can be edited after the code is printed, and scans can be counted — at the cost of depending on FreeQR staying online, which a static code does not.

On top of that generator, FreeQR hosts several destination page types itself (menus, link pages, contact cards, audio and uploaded documents) and ships seven QR-driven business products covering site and visitor sign-in, equipment records, gym equipment instructions, feedback collection, shift sign-on and book companion resources. This page lists all of it, with current prices, and says plainly where FreeQR is not the right tool.

What the free tier actually includes

What the free tier is not: it is a single dynamic code, not an unlimited one. The business products listed further down (sign-in, equipment, feedback, roster, book) all require a paid plan. “Free forever” means no expiry through inactivity and no scan cap — it is not an unconditional guarantee: per FreeQR's Terms, a code or account may still be suspended for abuse, malware, phishing, a legal requirement or deliberate platform misuse.

Paid plans

All prices are in Australian dollars. The dynamic QR figure is the total allowance on that plan and already includes the one free-forever code — a Starter plan is ten codes in total, not ten on top of the free one.

What a dynamic QR code can do

What FreeQR ships

Static & dynamic QR code designer

Generates both static and dynamic QR codes with colour, gradient, module and eye styling, optional frames with call-to-action text, an embedded logo, an adjustable quiet zone, and PNG or vector SVG download. A contrast check warns when the chosen colours are likely to scan poorly, and a print-size estimator converts a chosen PNG resolution into the real printed width, DPI and approximate scan distance.

Every plan, including Free. Static codes need no account.

Hosted QR experiences

For some dynamic QR types FreeQR hosts the destination page itself rather than redirecting elsewhere: a digital menu, a social/link page, a contact card, and an audio play page. Audio files can be uploaded for FreeQR to host, as can a PDF. A hosted page can carry an optional publish/unpublish window, and password protection on higher plans.

Hosted audio upload is available on every plan, including Free. Having FreeQR host a PDF needs Starter or above (linking to a PDF you already host is free on every plan); password-protected pages need Pro or above.

Construction Site Sign-In

A QR at a site entrance runs worker, contractor, visitor and delivery sign-in with a custom form builder (inductions, SWMS acknowledgement, pre-starts, toolbox talks), optional GPS-verified sign-in, worker credential and expiry tracking, manager approval, a live onsite register, emergency roll call, and CSV/PDF export. No app download for the person signing in.

Pro and above.

Visitor Sign-In

The same underlying engine with reception-oriented terminology and defaults: visitor, contractor and delivery sign-in, host/person-visiting selection, a live Who's Here register, a printable reception sign, emergency roll call, and an optional email notification to the site manager when a visitor signs in.

Pro and above.

Equipment Passports

A QR on a machine opens a public passport page showing its status, make/model/serial, location, service and inspection dates with an overdue indicator, documents the owner has explicitly marked public, public service-history entries, and an anonymous fault report form. The owner's dashboard holds everything else — internal reference, private documents and private history. Equipment can be created or updated in bulk by CSV, and printed labels can carry the workspace logo.

Pro and above. Automated fault-alert and service-reminder emails need Business or above; Pro sees the same due/overdue information in the dashboard.

Gym Equipment QR Instructions

The same equipment record with its optional public instructions layer switched on: numbered how-to-use steps with images, setup instructions, safety notes, common mistakes, an instructional video (click-to-load, never autoplaying), extra photos, custom sections, and gym-specific fields such as muscles targeted and seat/handle position. Starter content templates exist for common machine types and are always created as a draft to review, never auto-published.

Pro and above. Uses the same QR and record as Equipment Passports — not a second QR.

Feedback & Issue Reporting

A hosted public form for general feedback, maintenance issues, cleanliness, damaged items, safety concerns and suggestions, not tied to a specific asset. The owner chooses the categories, whether contact details are optional or required, and whether a photo may be attached. Submissions can be fully anonymous and need no account; owners work through them with a New / In progress / Resolved status. The public form states it is not an emergency-response channel.

Pro and above. Automated email alerts on a new submission need Business or above.

Roster & Shift Sign-On

A QR tied to one workplace, not one employee. Staff scan it to start a shift, start and end a break, and finish a shift; every timestamp is recorded server-side rather than supplied by the phone. Supports shifts crossing midnight and unrostered shifts flagged for review, with manager timesheet approval, corrections that preserve the original record alongside the correction, and CSV export.

Business and above.

Book QR Codes

A QR printed inside a book opens a hosted page listing companion resources in order — video, audio, hosted documents and downloads, images and plain-text notes. Any individual resource can optionally get its own QR that deep-links straight to it, for example one per chapter. Readers need no app or account.

Pro and above.

Who FreeQR suits

Restaurants and cafes
A table QR can point at a FreeQR-hosted digital menu that is edited when prices change, without reprinting table talkers.
Signwriters and sign installers
A dynamic QR on vehicle or building signage means a client's changed destination is a dashboard edit, not a re-wrap.
Printers and packaging designers
Vector SVG export and a print-size estimator (printed width, real DPI, approximate scan distance) let a code be checked before a run is committed.
Event organisers
One printed code can be redirected from a pre-event registration page to the live programme and then to a post-event feedback form.
Trades and construction
Construction Site Sign-In turns a QR at the gate into worker and visitor sign-in, inductions and an emergency roll call, with no app for workers to install.
Equipment hire companies
Equipment Passports give each machine a public page showing current status, chosen manuals and service dates, with fault reporting anyone on site can use.
Gyms and fitness studios
A QR on a machine shows members how to use it — steps, setup, safety notes and an optional video — without a staff member standing by.
Facilities and property managers
A feedback QR in a shared space gives occupants a direct, anonymous way to report a maintenance or cleanliness issue to the right inbox.
Small businesses generally
Unlimited static QR codes with no account, plus one free dynamic code, cover most needs before any subscription is involved.

Where FreeQR is the wrong tool: it is not an inventory or warehouse system, not a payment processor, not a payroll or award-interpretation system, not a publishing CMS, and not a statutory compliance or certification service. It provides the QR layer and, for some products, the hosted page behind it.

How FreeQR compares

This is FreeQR's own comparison, not an independent review.

It is written and published by FreeQR about its own competitors, so weigh it accordingly. Each claim below comes from the competitor's own website, checked on 14 October 2026. Anything that could not be confirmed from the vendor's own domain is stated as unverified rather than guessed. Prices change — check the vendor's live pricing page before deciding.

Adobe Express

  • Adobe Express includes a free QR code generator. A Creative Cloud subscription is not required to use it, and it does not watermark the generated code.
  • The codes it generates are static: the destination is encoded in the pattern itself and cannot be changed afterwards. Pointing somewhere else means generating and printing a new code.
  • A static code does not expire merely because time passes — it keeps working for as long as the destination URL it encodes stays alive.
  • Adobe Express Premium is a broader design-software subscription, not a QR-specific charge, and it is not required for QR generation.
  • Adobe Express does not offer editable dynamic destinations or per-code scan analytics; FreeQR does not offer Adobe's design suite. They are not substitutes for each other.

Australian pricing could not be read from Adobe's own site during this check, so no figure is stated here — see Adobe's pricing page for current rates. Adobe Express pricing

QR TIGER

  • Free plan: unlimited static QR codes plus 3 dynamic codes, capped at 500 scans each, with basic analytics, per QR TIGER's own pricing page.
  • Paid plans start at US$7/month (Regular, 12 dynamic codes, unlimited scans), rising through Advanced, Premium and Professional tiers.
  • Its free tier allows more dynamic codes than FreeQR's one; FreeQR's free dynamic code has no scan cap. Which is better depends on whether code count or scan volume is the constraint.

Prices are in USD on QR TIGER's own pricing page. QR TIGER pricing

Bitly

  • Free plan: 2 QR codes per month with unlimited scans, per Bitly's own pricing and plan pages. The codes are dynamic — the destination is updated through the underlying short link.
  • Paid plans start at US$10/month on the Core tier (billed annually), which includes 5 QR codes per month and 30 days of click/scan data.
  • Bitly's strength is link management at scale; it is not an equipment, sign-in or feedback-workflow product.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?
A static QR code has the destination encoded inside the printed pattern, so it works without any service in the middle but can never be changed. A dynamic QR code encodes a short redirect link instead; the platform looks up the current destination at scan time, so the destination can be edited without reprinting, and scans can be counted. The trade-off is that a dynamic code depends on the platform that issues it staying online, while a static code does not.
Does Adobe Express create dynamic QR codes?
No. Adobe Express has a free QR code generator that produces static codes — the destination is baked into the pattern and cannot be changed after the code is created. To point somewhere else you generate a new code. Those static codes do not expire with time; they keep working for as long as the URL they encode stays alive.
Is there a genuinely free dynamic QR code generator?
Several services offer some free dynamic tier, usually with a limit attached. FreeQR gives every verified account one dynamic QR code free forever, with no scan cap, no expiry through inactivity, and no credit card — the only exception is a code or account suspended for abuse, malware, phishing, a legal requirement or deliberate platform misuse, per FreeQR's Terms. QR TIGER's free plan allows three dynamic codes but caps each at 500 scans, and Bitly's free plan allows two QR codes per month. Which one suits you depends on whether you need more codes or more scans.
Do I need an account to make a QR code with FreeQR?
Not for a static QR code — those are generated in the browser with no sign-up and no limit on how many. An account is needed only for a dynamic QR code, because something has to store and update the destination.
How much does FreeQR cost?
The Free plan is A$0 and includes one dynamic QR code. Paid plans are Starter A$4.99/month or A$49/year (10 dynamic codes), Pro A$12.99/month or A$129/year (100), Business A$29.99/month or A$299/year (500) and Agency A$79.99/month or A$799/year (2,000). There is also a one-off A$29 Lifetime Dynamic QR that adds one permanent code without a subscription. All prices are in Australian dollars; check the pricing page for the current figures.
Do the paid plan allowances add to the free QR code?
No. The published plan totals are the total allowance and already include the one free-forever dynamic QR. A Starter plan means ten dynamic codes in total, not ten on top of the free one. The one-off Lifetime QR is the exception — it adds one code on top of whatever plan you are on.
What file formats can I download a QR code in?
PNG at 1024, 2048 or 4096 pixels, and genuine vector SVG. SVG is the right choice for professional print because it stays sharp at any physical size.
Can FreeQR tell me how big to print a QR code?
It gives guidance, not a single universal number. The designer converts the PNG size you pick into the real printed width, the resulting DPI and a rough maximum scan distance, and warns when the code itself would end up under about 15 mm across. The right size genuinely depends on how much data the code holds, how far away people will scan it from, the printing method and the surface.
Is FreeQR an Australian company?
FreeQR is Australian-facing, prices in Australian dollars and operates at freeqr.com.au. The product itself is usable anywhere. It is not affiliated with freeqr.com or any similarly named service.
Is this page an independent review of FreeQR and its competitors?
No — it is not an independent review. This page is published by FreeQR about its own product, and the competitor section is FreeQR's own comparison rather than a neutral third-party assessment. Competitor facts are drawn from each competitor's own website on the date shown, and anything that could not be confirmed is marked as unverified instead of guessed.

Static QR codes need no account at all. Dynamic codes start free.
