How logo QR codes work on FreeQR
Upload a PNG, JPEG, SVG or WebP logo — large photos are resized automatically so they save reliably. Place it over the middle of the code, adjust its size and padding, and choose a plain, white-square or white-rounded backing behind it.
Adding a logo automatically raises the QR's error correction to the highest level. That gives the code more spare data to recover from, since the logo covers part of the pattern underneath it. Logo, colours and shape are independent of each other, so you can combine your logo with any module pattern, corner-eye style, solid colour or gradient.
Every design — logo included — is checked against an independent QR decoder automatically, before you're able to download it. If a design would be hard to scan, you'll see a warning instead of a silent failure.
Where a branded QR code works well
Product packaging and labels, business cards, restaurant signage, brochures, retail displays, event tickets and posters, table menus, and social campaign posts — anywhere a plain code would look generic, a logo and matching brand colours make it recognisably yours.
Putting one on physical packaging specifically? See QR codes for product packaging for print-specific guidance.
Keep it scannable
A logo covers real data in the code, so a few things matter: keep good contrast between the code and its background, don't make the logo larger than you need to, and leave the quiet zone — the plain border around the code — intact.
FreeQR's built-in scan check catches most problems, but it isn't a guarantee for every phone, camera and printing method combination — a design that scans perfectly on-screen can behave differently once printed on foil, gloss or fabric. For anything printed in bulk, print one physical proof first and test-scan it under normal lighting before running the full job.
PNG or SVG for a branded QR
Both formats include your logo and colours. PNG suits screens and quick digital use; SVG is genuine vector artwork that stays sharp at any size, which matters once a code is enlarged for signage or placed inside packaging or print artwork.
See the SVG QR code generator for more on when vector export matters.
Static now, dynamic later
A static QR code — the kind this page generates — needs no account and works forever once printed. If you later want to change where it points without reprinting, the same design carries over to a dynamic QR code from your dashboard: logo, colours and style stay exactly as designed, and only the encoded link is added.
Frequently asked questions
- Will adding a logo make my QR code less reliable?
- Not if it's sized sensibly. FreeQR automatically raises error correction and checks the finished design against an independent scanner before you can download it — but a very large logo or poor contrast can still cause scan failures on some phones, so keep the logo modest and test a physical print before a big run.
- What logo file types can I upload?
- PNG, JPEG, SVG or WebP. Large photos are resized automatically so they save and export reliably.
- Can I use my own brand colours as well as a logo?
- Yes — QR colour, background, gradients and corner-eye styles are all independent of the logo, so you can combine your brand colours with your logo freely.
- Do I need to sign up to add a logo to a QR code?
- No — static QR codes with a logo are free and don't need an account. Signing up is only needed if you want a dynamic QR code you can edit after printing.
