Why SVG instead of just PNG
A PNG is a fixed grid of pixels — enlarge it well beyond its export size and the edges of each module can blur or pixelate. An SVG describes the same code as mathematical paths instead, so it stays perfectly sharp whether it ends up on a business card or a shopfront window. FreeQR gives you both formats on every static and dynamic QR code; SVG is the one to reach for whenever the final print size isn't fixed yet, or is larger than what you're looking at on screen.
Built for real print and design workflows
The SVG export is vector artwork suitable for professional print and design workflows — drop it into a design file, hand it to a printer, or place it directly on packaging artwork. Your colours, module style, finder-eye style and logo all carry through to the SVG, not just the PNG, and transparent backgrounds are supported for placing a code on an existing coloured layout.
Where an SVG QR code is used
Product packaging, labels and cartons, signage and banners, business cards and brochures, large-format and shopfront printing, and anywhere the code needs to be resized, recoloured or combined with other artwork inside design software before it's printed.

Frequently asked questions
- What's actually different between the PNG and SVG downloads?
- Both encode the identical QR pattern. PNG is a fixed-resolution image (up to 4096px on FreeQR); SVG is resolution-independent vector artwork that can be scaled to any size afterwards without quality loss.
- Will the code still scan correctly however large I scale the SVG?
- Scaling a vector file doesn't degrade the pattern itself — but contrast and the quiet zone (the plain border around the code) still matter at every size, so keep both intact and test-scan the final printed result.
- Does SVG export work for dynamic QR codes too, not just static ones?
- Yes — PNG and SVG export are available for both static and dynamic QR codes on FreeQR.
