Digital Construction Site Sign-In and Visitor Management

Worker sign-in, visitor sign-in and site induction are related but genuinely different problems. This looks at what each one actually needs, how FreeQR handles them separately, and how to choose — or combine — the right ones for a real site.

“Who's on site right now” sounds like one question, but a construction site and a reception desk need genuinely different answers to it. A worker signing on for the day needs induction acknowledgement, SWMS sign-off and a clock-in/clock-off record. A visitor dropping in for an hour needs none of that — just a quick, clear log of who they are and who they're there to see. FreeQR treats these as related but separately configured solutions rather than forcing one form to do both jobs badly.

Construction Site Sign-In: built for the compliance side

A worker or contractor scans a sign at the site entrance and signs on — GPS-verified, so a sign-in genuinely happened at the site rather than from somewhere else. First-time sign-in can require working through an induction and pre-start form, with safe work method statement (SWMS) acknowledgement built into the same step, so it's not a separate process someone can skip.

GPS verification confirms the sign-in genuinely happened at the site, not from somewhere else.

Everyone currently signed on shows up on a live attendance register — genuinely useful for a roll call, and for an emergency muster where knowing exactly who's on site matters.

Visitor Sign-In: built for reception, not compliance

A visitor doesn't need induction or SWMS acknowledgement — they need to sign in quickly and let the right person know they've arrived. A site can maintain a short list of who a visitor might be there to see, offered as a pick-list rather than a blank box a visitor half-remembers a name into, and the person they're visiting can be notified the moment they sign in.

Running both on the same site

A site with both workers and visitors coming through the same entrance can run Construction Site Sign-In for the workforce and Visitor Sign-In for everyone else, each with its own QR code and its own appropriately different form — a worker never sees an induction question irrelevant to a one-hour visitor, and a visitor never has to sit through SWMS acknowledgement meant for someone operating machinery.

Choosing between them

If the question is “does this person need induction, SWMS acknowledgement and a shift-length attendance record,” that's Construction Site Sign-In. If it's “who's dropped in and who are they here to see,” that's Visitor Sign-In. Most mixed sites genuinely need both, configured separately rather than compromised into one form that does neither job well.

Pricing

Both need FreeQR Pro (A$12.99/month) and above. See current pricing, or the step-by-step guides for Construction Site Sign-In and Visitor Sign-In.

Frequently asked questions

Are Construction Site Sign-In and Visitor Sign-In the same product?
They share the same underlying mechanism (a QR code, a mobile-friendly sign-in form, a live attendance register) but are configured for different audiences — workers/contractors with induction and SWMS acknowledgement, versus visitors who typically just need to log who they are and who they're there to see.
Does a worker need the FreeQR app?
No app at all — scanning opens the sign-in form in the phone's normal browser.
Can a site require induction before someone can sign in for the first time?
Yes — an induction and pre-start form can be required before a first-time sign-in is accepted, with SWMS acknowledgement built into the same flow.
Is there a live register of who's currently on site?
Yes — sign-ins and sign-outs show up on a live attendance register, useful for a roll call or an emergency muster.
Can a visitor select who they're there to see?
Yes — a site can maintain a list of who a visitor might be visiting, offered as a pick-list on the sign-in screen instead of a blank box.
What plan do I need?
Construction Site Sign-In and Visitor Sign-In need FreeQR Pro (A$12.99/month) and above.
